Our Curriculum is the Australian Curriculum

The Prep – Year 6 Australian Curriculum is described as a three-dimensional curriculum that recognises the central importance of disciplinary knowledge, skills and understanding; general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities.

The eight learning areas of the Australian Curriculum: English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Technologies and Languages. In each learning area or subject, content descriptions specify what young people will learn; and achievement standards describe the depth of understanding and the sophistication of knowledge and skill expected of students at the end of each year level or band of years in their schooling.

Alongside the learning areas, the Australian Curriculum provides seven general capabilities: Literacy; Numeracy; Information and Communication Technology Capability; Critical and Creative Thinking; Personal and Social Capability; Ethical Understanding; and Intercultural Understanding.

General capabilities are also identified where they offer opportunities to add depth and richness to student learning.

The Australian Curriculum also includes three current cross-curriculum priorities that are to be developed; these are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures; Asia and Australia's Engagement with Asia; and Sustainability. The priorities are not separate subjects in themselves; they are addressed through learning area content.

Assessment and reporting

At the beginning of every year, we enable parents an opportunity to meet their child's teacher and discuss the learning that students are undertaking at school.  We believe it is important to work together to support student learning.

As required by Education Queensland, report cards are issued to parents twice a year.

Another chance for parents to meet with classroom teachers, to discuss their child’s progress at school, is offered during the year.  Teachers are always willing to make mutually appropriate times to discuss student progress outside of these scheduled interview times.

Towards the end of the year, parents of students in Years 3, 5 and 7 will also receive NAPLAN reports that offer information on how their child performed during the National Testing.

Excursions

As part of some learning programs, students may go on an excursion to places of interest. Excursions are planned to supplement learning which occurs in the classroom and are organised by year level teachers and are approved by the Principal. Excursions may vary in length. Suitable transport will be arranged and parents will be informed of full details and costs prior to an excursion taking place.

It is school policy that students participating in excursions must wear school uniform, unless otherwise directed.

Camps

School camps involve children in educational activities which do not occur in the classroom. Details relevant to camps will be forwarded to parents as appropriate. No child will participate in a camp unless written permission has been received from parents. Students who do not attend school camp must continue to attend school as usual.
